The bad guy is really bad, intolerable, and the good guys are so flawed it is painful. It definitely would have been more realistic given a longer timeline in between those events happening in the lives of those within the same community. But I bought this book for myself as an adult reader and found myself caught up in the story as completely as any child reader.
