Loved Judith McNaught but with every new novel something was missing. It is also great to have an actually reluctant hero, who is on the cusp of being forced to participate in the quest, and yet wants to see it to the end. IMO the Titus Bass series is the very best, most historically accurate, and completely engaging story of the mountain man era of the first half of the 19th century. The book is richly illustrated with color photographs of the various Greek vases in question. Beautifully follows a little girl and the decisions she and her parents make and the lessons she learns. It will either really click with you and you will be laughing until you cry, particularly if you are familiar with metal culture or have metal friends, or you will read the first volume and feel the need to stop and take a shower to scrub it off. The ending is realistic: there's no strong resolution, no punishment or forgiveness. Paul struggles to readjust to the civilian world and experiences one letdown after another. What's a photographer to do.
